The Golden Key APAC Equity Bursary supports eligible members facing financial hardship, promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within the APAC region.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Members Only
  • Must be a Golden Key member or eligible for membership.
  • Currently enrolled as a full-time or part-time undergraduate, postgraduate, or research student.
  • Willing to commit as an active Golden Key committee member or Golden Key Ambassador for at least one year.
  • Demonstrate financial hardship with historical and/or current barriers to equity.

Golden Key encourages applications from:

  • First Nations and other Indigenous peoples.
  • Members of groups commonly experiencing discrimination based on race, ancestry, colour, religion, or place of origin.
  • Persons with visible and/or invisible disabilities (physical or mental).
  • Persons of marginalized sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions.

Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee a bursary, as awards are limited and part of a competitive selection process.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
  1. Personal Statement: Explain your reason for applying for the Equity Bursary (max. 300 words).
  2. Golden Key Commitment: Describe what joining Golden Key International Honour Society means to you.
  3. Core Pillars Alignment: Provide examples of achievements that align with Golden Key’s pillars: academic excellence, leadership, and community service.
  4. Supporting documentation: Include proof of financial hardship (e.g., Centrelink income support payments) and letters of recommendation highlighting exceptional behaviour in each pillar.

All submitted information will be treated with strict confidentiality.

CRITERIA
Emphasis will be placed on how a member has been able to demonstrate exceptional achievement in all three of the GK pillars.

Spring Education Debt Reduction Award winner ($5,000)

“I am incredibly honoured and thankful to receive the Golden Key Education Debt Reduction Award! I am from Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2010 with majors in biology and philosophy and minors in bioethics, psychology, and neuroscience. It is during my undergraduate studies that I became involved with Golden Key, and I could not be happier regarding that decision. As a current fourth year medical student at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, I am beginning to embark on the residency application process as I aspire to match in a neurosurgical program. This award will be of great help with residency applications and the interview process. It will also help alleviate the financial burden that comes with graduate school. The mission of Golden Key is one that resonates with me, and I am thankful for an organization that values education and celebrates a commitment to life-long learning.
